Cebu Series, La Marea Café - Love at First Bite

An all-time favorite destination whenever I visit Cebu is La Marea Café. I really like their Classic Warm Brownie Cup (Php95). It starts with a cake batter/mixture which is placed in a bowl, then microwaved for a minute or so. Then topped with Vanilla ice cream. I love how it is chewy-gooey, warm and cold. I really like the contrast of temperatures you feel when you have your first bite.

As much as possible, I have it every day of my stay in Cebu. So I always make sure that my friends try it too. Last 2010, I was in Cebu for Corral’s wedding. I brought Boo, Dee, Ly and Inna to the café -- they so loved it. And then Cebu 2011 happened, I made sure Ar, Mako and Jennie tasted it. As for Boo and Di, since they knew about it, they were just excited to eat the Brownie Cup everyday.

They offer a wide range of brownie cups where you can choose, depending on your preference.
The other flavors we’ve tried were: Peanut Brownie Cup (Php95), it had chunks of Choc-nut on top. This is for the peanut butter lovers. The Triple Chocolate Brownie Cup (Php95) was too chocolate-y for me, but chocoholics will surely enjoy this.

And for someone who has the sweet tooth like me, the Yema Brownie Cup (Php95) will top the list.

  1. I am a big brownie cup fan and I can eat it everyday! I am still the classic brownie cup girl and the yema comes next:-) I happen to be sitting with the owners and reading your blog. They appreciate your glowing reviews! The next time you are in Cebu, come by and let us know. We are now working on the second floor level called Flying Fish. It'll be serving coffee based alcoholic beverages, wine, and pica pica. Come by and see us! We'd love to have a brownie cup with you.

  2. Wow, we're on the same boat. I still love the classic but next to top my list is Yema. :) La Marea deserves such review, it's been one of the few nostalgic Cebu treats for me. Next time I fly to Cebu, will definitely contact you. It would be nice to actually meet the you and the owners. :) Looking forward to be at Flying Fish, and of course La Marea.

  3. Sorry guys, I brought my wife there to relax, we tried three brownie cups since every comment here said that its good but the brownie was soggy, it tasted like pancakes and condensed milk and it was really disappointing. Sorry I had to be frank but readers need to know the truth.

  4. Hi Jan, thank you for being honest. Maybe it is just not for you. I've brought so many people there and they loved it. As for the texture, it is really on the soggy side. The gooey-ness is what makes it really good for us who enjoyed it. :) the texture is the same across all with only the flavors varying. So if you didn't enjoy one, I think you won't enjoy the rest. Or MAYBE you just had a bad batch.

At the end of the day, to each is own. My posts are based on my friends' and my personal opinion and taste. :)
